Hotel Review: NH Eixample in Barcelona, Spain

The NH Eixample, a 3 star hotel belonging to the NH Hotels chain, provides accommodation in the Eixample district of Barcelona, at 105 València Street to be precise. Its privileged location is ideal for business travellers and tourists alike, since it stands relatively close to Sants train station, the National Art Museum of Catalonia (the MNAC) and the Fira (where major events like the Mobile World Congress take place), but also within walking distance to Las Ramblas, Plaça de Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia. To top it all off, the nearby underground and bus lines make it easier to get around the city and connect the area to El Prat Airport, the Avinguda Diagonal, the Camp Nou stadium and Barceloneta beach.

How to get to NH Eixample hotel in Barcelona using public transportation

Providing we decide not to take a taxi, our journey from Barcelona airport to the NH Eixample hotel will be a smooth one. The TMB bus line 46 (red bus) will take us from the arrivals hall parking lot of El Prat Terminal 1 to Plaça de Espanya, while the R2 line of Rodalies Renfe, departing from Terminal 2, arrives in Sants train station every 30 minutes. The street where this Barcelona hotel is situated (València) is right in between these two termini; from that point, just a stroll of approximately 10 minutes separates us from our lodging.

Front desk, lobby and breakfast

Some of the strengths of this hotel in downtown Barcelona are, without a doubt, the kindness and the professionalism of the staff, capable of completing our check-in process and providing all the necessary information in record time, so that we do not have to wait for too long before going up to our room and get some good rest after the journey. Among the communal areas, I would like to highlight the cosy lobby with sofas, daily press, beverages and both cold and hot snacks (for an additional cost), as well as the breakfast lounge, where a daily buffet breakfast is served (free of charge provided that you choose the “breakfast included” option when booking) starting 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and until 11:30 on Saturday and Sunday. In the event of leaving the hotel earlier, there is an “earlybird breakfast” service from 5:00 a.m.

Our room at the NH Eixample hotel

This hotel in the Eixample district of Barcelona has a range of rooms according to services provided and dimensions. We booked a standard individual room with breakfast included. It had a large single bed, a telephone, a closet, a full-length mirror, a desk, a TV with satellite channels, mini-bar and snacks (for an additional cost), as well as an ensuite bathroom featuring a shower, a tub, WC, a washbasin and a hair dryer, aside from the usual toiletries.

The price of my hotel room included free WiFi connection (available all throughout the facilities) by using the password provided upon arrival, and it worked perfectly during the whole stay. Every piece of furniture was clean and in perfect condition, the bed was comfortable and the flat-screen TV was a really large one.

Our room in this NH Hotel in Barcelona was an interior one and the light was somewhat dim (having only bedside lamps and another lamp on a working desk), yet it was really adequate as you could completely relax in such an intimate ambience. The bathroom, though, was very well illuminated. Should you prefer a room with abundant natural light, know that the building also features exterior rooms.
